About Nexus Digital Engineering

Nexus Digital Engineering helps government and commercial organizations optimize complex, software-centric systems to reduce costs while maintaining performance.

Our approach builds on Dr. Tom Booth’s PhD research at Colorado State University, including the YAMM model-based systems engineering methodology and Unified Modeling Approach (UMA). We provide consulting, SysML models, automated processes, training, and ongoing software support to help customers make informed performance and cost decisions.

About the Role

We are seeking a mid- to senior-level Systems Architect to connect systems engineering with FinOps—the collaboration between finance and technology teams to balance cloud spending, performance, and required capabilities.

You will work with systems engineers, software developers, and data analysts to model systems, evaluate alternatives, and communicate practical recommendations to customers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Apply YAMM and UMA to help customers evaluate cost-reduction opportunities.

  • Develop SysML 1.6 models in Cameo Systems Modeler.

  • Manage requirements and document engineering decisions within the model.

  • Work from a task backlog and meet scheduled deadlines.

  • Conduct trade studies and analyze alternatives using the unified model.

  • Use Python to simulate use cases within the SysML model.

  • Prepare professional technical reports using Overleaf.

  • Develop technical briefs using Overleaf or Google Slides.

  • Present findings and recommended solutions to customers.

Required Qualifications

Systems engineering and modeling

  • Mid-level: 3–5 years of relevant engineering experience.

  • Senior-level: 5–10 years of relevant engineering experience.

  • A master’s degree in Systems Engineering or at least two years of MBSE experience.

  • Knowledge or experience with SysML 1.6.

  • Knowledge of at least one MBSE methodology.

  • Experience with at least one SysML tool.

  • Knowledge of trade studies.

Technical communication

  • Experience writing professional technical reports.

  • Experience presenting technical information to stakeholders.

Software, architecture, and analysis

  • Experience developing software or using scripting languages.

  • Some experience with Python or MATLAB.

  • Conceptual knowledge of cloud environments.

  • Knowledge of object-oriented programming, common architectural patterns, and networking.

  • Basic knowledge of statistics and data analysis techniques.

Citizenship and clearance

  • U.S. citizenship.

  • Ability to obtain a DoD Secret clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least two years of experience in each of two different engineering disciplines.

  • A master’s or doctoral degree in Systems Engineering, or at least five years of MBSE experience.

  • Extensive experience with SysML 1.6 and familiarity with SysML 2.0.

  • Experience with Cameo Systems Modeler and Teamwork Cloud.

  • Experience conducting trade studies and systems analysis.

  • Experience writing technical reports in Overleaf.

  • Ability to explain complex ideas clearly.

  • Three to five years of software development or scripting experience.

  • Two to three years of Python experience.

  • Knowledge and experience with on-premises and cloud architectures.

  • One to two years of object-oriented programming experience.

  • Knowledge and experience with software architectural patterns and network architecture.

  • Knowledge or experience with numerical analysis and optimization.

  • Experience with AI/ML training and inference.

  • At least two years of experience supporting DoD or related government contracts.

  • An active Secret clearance or higher.
