About Nexus Digital Engineering

Nexus Digital Engineering helps government and commercial organizations optimize complex, software-centric systems to reduce costs while maintaining performance.

Our approach builds on Dr. Tom Booth’s PhD research at Colorado State University, including the YAMM model-based systems engineering methodology and Unified Modeling Approach (UMA). We provide consulting, SysML models, automated processes, training, and ongoing software support to help customers make informed performance and cost decisions.

About the Role

We are seeking a mid- to senior-level Software Developer to work alongside systems engineers, software developers, and data analysts.

You will develop software that collects system data and metadata, processes information, builds numerical models, and enables systems engineering simulations. Your work will help customers compare architecture alternatives and understand the trade-offs between performance, capability, security, and cost.

This role includes developing simulation infrastructure, customer-facing interfaces, and dashboards that turn complex analysis into useful information.

Key Responsibilities

  • Apply YAMM and UMA to help customers evaluate systems and reduce costs.

  • Develop software that captures existing networks as a knowledge graph.

  • Support systems engineers in creating SysML models.

  • Build software that enables system trade studies using the Unified Model.

  • Develop a Python framework for simulation model inputs and outputs.

  • Design scalable infrastructure to run thousands of model simulations.

  • Build front-end interfaces that help customers use complex engineering software.

  • Develop dashboards that clearly communicate analysis results.

  • Work from a task backlog and meet scheduled deadlines.

  • Make engineering decisions and document them in Markdown.

  • Support technical reports, customer presentations, and recommendations.

  • Collaborate using Overleaf for technical reports and Overleaf or Google Slides for technical briefs.

Experience and Education

  • Mid-level: 3–5 years of relevant software development experience.

  • Senior-level: 5–10+ years of relevant software development experience.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field, or four years of verifiable equivalent software experience as a substitute.

Software Development

  • Experience developing software or using scripting languages.

  • At least three years of experience with Python or a similar language.

  • Experience using Git through platforms such as GitLab, GitHub, or Azure DevOps.

  • Experience with modern software development practices, including DevOps.

  • Experience with or knowledge of DevOps or DevSecOps pipelines.

  • Experience working in cloud environments.

  • Object-oriented programming experience.

  • Experience with common data structures and algorithms.

  • Knowledge of networking.

Analysis and Communication

  • Basic knowledge of statistics and data analysis techniques.

  • Basic understanding of trade studies.

  • Experience using AI, machine learning, or large language models.

  • Experience writing professional technical reports.

  • Experience presenting technical information to stakeholders.

Citizenship and Clearance

  • U.S. citizenship.

  • Ability to obtain a DoD Secret security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.

  • At least two years of experience with each of two programming languages.

  • Linux experience.

  • Familiarity with UML or SysML.

  • Knowledge of on-premises and cloud architectures.

  • Knowledge of software architectural patterns.

  • GitLab pipeline experience.

  • Network architecture experience.

  • Experience implementing statistics and data analysis techniques in software.

  • Experience conducting trade studies.

  • Experience with numerical analysis and optimization.

  • Experience training, testing, and validating AI, machine learning, or large language models.

  • Experience writing technical reports in Overleaf.

  • Ability to explain complex ideas clearly.

  • At least two years of experience supporting DoD or related government contracts.

  • Active DoD Secret security clearance.

Compensation and Work Arrangement

  • Mid-level: $110,000–$140,000 annually.

  • Senior-level: Salary range to be confirmed.
